ConstructionSkills Grant Scheme
ConstructionSkills Grant Scheme runs from 1 August—31 July each year. For detailed, up-to-date information on who can claim grants, when, how, closing dates for claims, supplementary payments and so on, please refer to the current ConstructionSkills Grant booklet—available from ConstructionSkills.
Training and Developing the Workforce
The following is general information regarding grants for training and developing the workforce.
All ConstructionSkills Grant claims can be made in one of two ways—either via the annual Training Plan route, or on an ad hoc basis, via the Short Duration route. The two cannot be mixed.
Training & Development Plan
Those companies who have an annual T&D plan (click the link for more info):
- Will receive a minimum annual payment of £500
- Can claim £27.50 per person per 6 hour training day, for all occupations (including admin staff, and so on), for training not covered by Qualifying the Workforce grants
- Can claim for any training (not covered by Qualifying the Workforce) with a duration of 30 minutes or more
Short Duration (Ad Hoc)
Those companies who claim on an ad hoc basis, via the Short Duration route:
- Can claim £35 per person per 6 hour training day—however, a number of criteria (to do with course content and the occupations of those attending), apply
Details of current ConstructionSkills Grants will be given on all course flyers.
There are numerous courses which fall into the category of qualifying the workforce, and for which grants are paid separately, and in addition, to those covered by the above. Courses in this category include:
- SMSTS, SMSTS Refresher and SSSTS
- CPCS—new entrant, experienced and instructors
- Health and Safety Test
- OSAT
- Apprenticeships

Other Useful Information
We provide useful information; for example, did you know that…
- Levy paying companies, who have paid their ConstructionSkills Levy
on time, qualify for an additional 25% supplementary
payment on all ConstructionSkills grants.
For more information on how this is paid, please refer to the Supporting Information Section of the ConstructionSkills Grant booklet, or visit the supplementary payment section of the ConstructionSkills website - ½-day Mobile Towers courses can only be claimed via the training plan route
- A grant for First Aid Appointed Persons courses can only be claimed via the Short Duration route if the person doing the training works in construction
- You can claim for half-day courses (3 hrs minimum), via the Short Duration route (click link for further information), provided they deal exclusively with health, safety and/or environmental subjects
