Mike Poole Decorators – regional finalist in the 'micro employer' category of the East Midlands Regional Apprenticeship Awards 2010

Congratulations to NCTG member Mike Poole for reaching the regional finals!

Mike Poole is dedicated to actively helping and encouraging his apprentices to gain the skills and qualifications that will meet the need of the painting and decorating business. Mike’s senior apprentice, Teki, has been with the company since 2006 and is now in the process of completing his NVQ level 3. Adam started his apprenticeship in September 2009, attends Tresham College on day release and is mentored by both Mike and Teki. Mike says:

‘Having an apprentice brings new ideas and a chance for discussion on current topics which are being learnt at college which I find very encouraging, especially when it’s positive conversation inside a client’s house – client’s like that!’

As a ‘Dulux Select Decorator’ Mike understands the need to offer customers a professional service and to strive to be the best employer by putting the safety and welfare of his employees first. He believes that when it comes to training, health and safety should be a daily routine and by involving his apprentices in decision-making, it not only helps to build their confidence and make them feel valued team members, it also produces excellent work results.

We wish Mike good luck at the regional finals in Derby on 10 June 2010.
